Who says that science fiction must be thought provoking? Sometimes it can just be a bunch of zany fun. First airing in 1975, the Sid and Marty Krofft-produced series, The Lost Saucer, introduced the world to two bumbling but loveable androids who were seemingly in desperate need of a GPS device.

Laugh-In star, Ruth Buzzi and Jim Nabers (good ol’ Gomer Pyle) starred as Fi and Fum, two androids who accidentally travel through a time warp during a routine expedition. From the year 2369, they stumble into 1975 and are forced to land on Earth. The friendly extraterrestrials soon befriend two Earth kids, a youngster named Jerry and his older babysitter, Alice. While giving the kids a tour of their spaceship, they glance out one of the portholes and discover much to their dismay that plenty of locals have begun to crowd around their ship. Fum freaks out and accidentally launches them back into outer space. And now they are truly a lost saucer. While the kids are relatively amused with the adventures, not to mention the dog/horse hybrid they encounter called a “dorse”, the two androids bounce from planet to planet as they try to get the kids back home safely to Earth.

16 episodes of The Lost Saucer were originally aired but, strangely enough, only six of those episodes would be rerun later as part of The Krofft Supershow  - which ran for two years after the initial series ended. Surely those goofy aliens couldn’t have lost 10 episodes of footage somewhere along the way? Well, if anyone could...
