Based on a comic book character created by Belgian cartoonist Freddy Monnickendam (creator of The Snorks), Hanna-Barbera brought Foofur as an animated series to the U.S. Voiced by voice-over veteran Frank Welker, Foofur was a blue hound dog who inherits a mansion after his owner passes away. The house is just too big for one dog, so Foofur invites his friends from the local pound over to stay – Louis the tough dog, uppity Hazel and her cool husband Fritz-Carlos, Annabell, who harbors a crush on Foof, Fencer the karate cat, and Foofur’s niece Rocki.
But all was not peaceful at Foofur’s grand home. Greedy humans, rats, and cats were constant annoyances. Worst of all was the executor of Foofur’s master’s will, Mrs. Escrow. She wants to sell the house, but Foofur is having none of it, and he and his friends are constantly scaring people away. Escrow’s mean Chihuahua Pepe keeps trying to bust Foofur’s illegal houseguests, but Foofur and his friends are there to stay.
