Thanks to the overwhelming popularity of My Favorite Martian in the 60s, which followed the adventures of a stranded Martian named Martin, living with newspaper report Tim O’Hara, it was only a matter of time before the two were resurrected for an animated Saturday morning series, My Favorite Martians.

Debuting in 1973, My Favorite Martians featured the two well-known characters along with some new additions – Tim’s young niece Katy, a Martian boy named Andromeda, and an alien canine pet named Oakie Dokie. The O’Hara family served as protectors for their alien friends, with Katy telling folks that Martin was her uncle and the boy, her young cousin. Unfortunately, the one person who wasn’t persuaded by this tale was Detective Brennan who lived next door and remained forever suspicious. Mrs. Brown also appeared in the cartoon as the kindly old lady with a perpetual crush on Martin.

Unfortunately, none of the original actors lent their voices to My Favorite Martians. Taking over for Ray Walston was Jonathan Harris, who 60s television fans might remember as Dr. Smith from Lost in Space. And Jane Webb, who provided the voice of Filmation’s Sabrina, the Teenage Witch lent her voice as both Katy and Mrs. Brown.

The series ran for two seasons before being cancelled, with the second season consisting entirely of repeats. Still, kids got a chance to be introduced to America’s favorite Martian, just as millions of viewers had almost a decade earlier.
