Even an inanimate piece of plastic can get its own Saturday morning cartoon so work hard, kids, because anything is possible! Rubik's Cube, the ubiquitous toy sensation of the 1980s, debuted in The Pac-Man/Rubik the Amazing Cube Hour on ABC.

The cartoon followed the adventures of Rubik, the magic cube puzzle that gained special powers when it was solved, i.e. when the colors were aligned on all of its sides. In its jumbled state, the cube didn't do anything at all so it was up the protagonists to 'wake up' Rubik. The three Rodriguez children--Carlos, Reynaldo and Lisa--found Rubik after it had escaped from an evil magician's grasp and used it to make their neighborhood a better place, all the while trying to elude the cube's former owner.

Rubik could talk, walk, fly, morph into varied shapes and shoot magic rays in aid of his young companions, who were quite adept at solving the puzzle. They needed to be fast with their fingers because Rubik would scramble out of alignment quite often.

Ron Palillo, Horshack from Welcome Back, Kotter provided the tinny voice of Rubik and, in keeping with the children's Hispanic background, Puerto Rican teen sensation Menudo sang the theme song.
