Release History:

9/8/73 - 8/30/75 NBC
Based on the 1964 TV show about a ghoulish family, this cartoon series debuted in 1973 and ran for a couple of years on NBC. The Addams Family was the story of a weird clan that first started out as a cartoon series in the New Yorker before making its way to the small screen.

Hanna-Barbera produced the 70s animated version with all our favorite characters: Gomez and Morticia; their kids, Pugsley and Wednesday; Grandma and Uncle Fester; Lurch, the monosyllabic servant; and Cousin Itt, the hairy relative. This time around the family traveled America in a haunted camper, quite a spacious affair that featured a moat and several ghastly pets. Dogs, cats and canaries need not apply because the Addams family had Mr. V the vulture, Alley the alligator, and Ocho the octopus. Kitty-Cat was no tabby but a ferocious lion.

Jackie Coogan, the former child actor who had played Uncle Fester in the live action series reprised his role as did Ted Cassidy, who returned to lend his stentorian voice to the animated Lurch. None other than future Oscar-winner Jodie Foster provided the voice of Pugsley. Kooky.

The short-lived cartoon didn’t find huge success but the Addams franchise was too popular to end there. Another animated version aired in the 90s and two live action movies opened in theaters to thrilled audiences who loved the mysterious and spooky family.
