Release History:

Children of the 80s are sure to remember the show Captain Kangaroo, a.k.a. Bob Keeshan, hosted: CBS Storybreak.  Following in the footsteps of the popular PBS show Reading Rainbow, CBS introduced CBS Storybreak in 1985.  The Saturday morning program presented half-hour animated adaptations of some of the greatest children’s stories of its time, with each show capped off by Keeshan recommending other books that were similar to the broadcast.

Each book was recommended by the Library of Congress.  Stories, like the one from How to Eat Fried Worms, came to life throughout the show’s run on television.  For several seasons, new shows would be created and older episodes would be aired in weeks between, giving children a chance to both experience new tales and relive some of the best from the series’ run, week after week.

The popular program took home a Emmy nomination for its first season, and continued through 1988.  In 1993, the show returned with Malcom Jamal-Warner, 'Theo' from The Cosby Show, as host.  Kids loved it, though the show would only be shown in spurts throughout the decade, introducing a world of books to a new generation of children until the show’s end in 1998.
