Release History:

This animated series was inspired by Jonathan Swift’s 18th century satirical novel about the misadventures of an Englishman who washes up on the shores of Lilliput (among other places), a land populated by diminutive citizens only about six inches tall. The cartoon doesn’t follow Gulliver, the hapless shipwreck victim, but rather his son Gary, who goes to Lilliput in search of his father.

It debuted in 1968 and told the story of the younger Gulliver as he journeyed with his faithful dog, Tagg to find his lost father. Gary is aided by his father’s treasure map and along the way befriends several Lilliputians who help him in his quest. Gary’s tiny friends include Flirtatia and her father, King Pomp, Glum, Eager and Bunko. At first, Gary is imprisoned by the Lilliputians but eventually wins their trust and friendship. He does need all the help he can get because the evil Captain Leech is always hounding the young Gulliver and attempts to steal the treasure map at every opportunity. Many of Gary’s adventures centered around Captain Leech’s schemes to get his hands on that map.

The series consisted of 17 episodes and ran for two seasons in the late 60s. Later on, it was one of the segments in the early-70s cartoon package program, The Banana Splits Adventure Hour.
