Hanna-Barbera could have made Wally Gator a girl and called her Allie Gator but he came out as a boy--it worked better that way since Wally sounded just like actor Ed Wynn. Legendary voice actor Daws Butler did the honors in this show.

Wally lived at a zoo but his curiosity for humans and their habits led him to escape his cage on a regular basis. He busted out, saw the world, did fun things and drove Mr. Twiddle the zookeeper absolutely bonkers. Mr. Twiddle had to keep a constant eye on the roving reptile and still Wally managed to pull the wool over his eyes.

The friendly alligator was a kind soul and any scares he caused whenever he escaped his zoo habitat were totally unwarranted. In fact, Wally was in more danger from humans than anyone else because he regularly ran afoul of unscrupulous people who wanted to use him his hide for high-end accessories, like shoes and handbags. For all his wanderlust, Wally felt more comfortable back in the zoo where no one wanted to wear him.

Wally Gator included two other cartoons, Lippy the Lion & Hardy Har Har and Touche Turtle & Dum Dum, but the alligator was much more popular than the other animals in his show. He had a long career teaming up with other Hanna-Barbera characters in various shows like Scooby's All-Star Laff-a-Lympics and Wake, Rattle & Roll.
