One look at the beloved children’s books written by Jan and Stan Berenstain and it was a no-brainer that they were just asking to be made into a television show. The warm and welcoming artwork, the emphasis on family and good morals and best of all, a bunch of cuddly bears – what else could you want? And in 1985, The Berenstain Bears finally made it to the airwaves.

The Berenstain Bears were a close-knit family and well respected among the community in Beartown. Townsfolk included Mayor Horace T. Honeypot; scientist, Actual Factual and their next door neighbear, Big Paw Bear. But Beartown was not without its share of conflict. There was con artist, Raffish Ralph, for example - who had his eyes set on the town’s honey supply. But by coming together and working as a team, the Bear family was able to thwart his dubious plans.

And that was the underlying message – that through good behavior and respect for family and community, The Berenstain Bears would always triumph in the end of each of the episodes, just as they had so many times in the popular books.
