Pole Position was originally a video arcade game that featured car racing but the concept needed a little more padding if it was to succeed in the competitive world of Saturday morning cartoons. When in doubt, solving mysteries is always a solid addition to any TV series.

The protagonists were Dan, Tess and Daisy Darret, three orphans who had lost their parents to a car accident. After the tragedy, the siblings decided to carry on their parents' legacy of competing in the Pole Position Stunt Show, a car racing extravaganza run by their uncle. The Stunt Show also hid a secret government operation that fought crime and the Darret children took up this responsibility as well.

The Darrets' uncle created two high-tech cars that race in the Stunt Show and help the youngsters in their crimefighting adventures. Roadie and Wheels are nearly sentient vehicles that can produce other modes of transportation, like water skis and hover jets, should the need arise.

Pole Position debuted at the tail end of the video arcade fad and was rather short-lived to the disappointment of racing car/crimefighting afficionados. Only 13 episodes were produced by DIC Entertainment.
