Release History:

First featured in a line of greeting cards, The Get-Along Gang got its own Saturday morning cartoon on CBS in 1984. The gang consisted of several pre-adolescent animals, all cute as buttons, which live in the happy town of Green Meadow. The show focused on the characters overcoming personal flaws to get along with everybody in a spirit of friendship and cooperation.

The leader of the gang was Montgomery Moose, who could be a bit of klutz sometimes, especially where his antlers were concerned. Dotty Dog was a cheerleader and Woolma Lamb was a very vain sheep. Zipper Cat was a sporty feline who affected a tough guy demeanor but had a good heart. Bingo Beaver was somewhat of a troublemaking prankster and a gambler to boot. Portia Porcupine had a very curious nature and as the youngest member of the group, she tended to cry a lot. There were other supporting characters, like Breaker Turtle and Bernice Bear, but most of the stories centered on the core gang.

The villains in Green Meadow were Catchum Crocodile, who was a selfish bully and his sidekick, Leland Lizard. No explanation was provided for the mammals vs. reptiles theme in the show.

The cartoon spawned a lot of tie-in merchandise in addition to the greeting card. The Get-Along Gang appeared in children’s books, comic books, as stuffed toys and action figures. CBS aired the show for two years before declining interest caused its cancellation.
