Release History:

10/60 - ? syndicated
9/11/71 - 9/2/72 NBC (The Deputy Dawg Show)
Deputy Dawg was a laid back canine patrolling the bayous of the Deep South and catching naps whenever and wherever he could. That usually got in the way of his crime fighting because the Deputy would rather laze about than lead any high-speed chases. He often got into trouble with his boss, the Sheriff, but Deputy Dawg didn’t change his ways. He’d try, sure, but he was always on the lookout for his next nap.

Deputy Dawg’s friends consisted of a wide array of bayou creatures, like Muskie the muskrat, Ty Coon, Vincent van Gopher and Moley Mole, who looked on Dawg’s misadventures with much amusement.

Deputy Dawg came out of Terrytoons, the outfit that also created other cartoon staples of the 50s and 60s, including Mighty Mouse. The lackadaisical deputy became very popular in the mid-60s and there was interest in bringing his adventures to the big screen.

Notable and prolific voice talent Dayton Allen gave Deputy Dawg his drawling voice, as well providing voices for many other characters in the show. Allen often did impressions of famous celebrities when voicing the cartoon critters, adding an extra layer of comedy to Deputy Dawg.
