MEMORY:

I remember watching The Heatter/Quigley

ABC TV Network version of"Shenanigans!"With

Mr.Stubby Kaye(God Rest His Soul)and Mr.Kenny

Williams(The show's announcer..who was also

"Kenny The Cop")Saturday mornings on The

ABC TV Network as far back as the fall of

1964.

Set against the backdrop of a giant

game board that looked like a carnival

midway.

Mr.Kaye(who was decked out like

a carnival barker)would have two kids

a boy and a girl try to successful play

the games and complete the stunts in

the least ammount of time in order

for the lucky kid to win alot of

Shenaniganzas"(play monies)..which

the kid could trade for toys and prizes

in the"Toy Bizzaire"(Which was on the

other side of the studio).

If one of the contestants failed to

complete a stunt..they spent some

time in "The Dog House".

The only way that the kid could

get out of"The Dog House"?

Was to try and make the right

animal sounds(This was accomplished

by having the kid press a button on

the side of "the Dog House"attaraction)

Another kid would serve as the time

keeper.

During the show's second season on

the air?

Most of the stunts were replaced by

"The Haunted House"Attraction..which

was occupied by "The Shenanighoul"

(A non frightening and lousey looking

creature..who was about as frightening

and as a funny as a bad Halloween prank!)

The kid had to run into "The Haunted House"

and try to grab one of the boxes that "The

Shenanighoul"was holding in it's arms to

try and grab the right box that had "The Secret

Surprise".

Oftimes..the kid only got the box that

had(Are you read for this?!)..a piece of

chewing gum.

And that lead to the show's demise.

The ABC TV Network version was not

the only version of the program?

"Shenanigans!"began as a local

kids tv game show on WPIX TV Ch.11

in NYC back in the early 1950's.

The kids..who were chosen to

play the game had to try and solve

the puzzles and riddles in the least

ammount of time in order to earn

points and win toy prizes.

Bob Quigley(then an unknown

tv comedy writer and comic actor)

was the show's host and creator.

(Mr.Quigley hosted the show as

a private detective)

When he teamed up with tv

game show producer Merrill

Heatter in the 1960's to create

and produce"Video Village" and

Video Village Junior"for The CBS TV

Network.

They were also asked by the heads of

The ABC TV Network to create and produce

a kids tv game for ABC's saturday morning

scheduale in 1964.

Thinking back to early success on

WPIX TV in NYC?

Mr.Quigley decided that it was time

to revive"Shenanigans"again.

And they did..but..Stubby Kaye became

the host.

Kevin S.Butler AKA"Nostalgia TV".
