Release History:
9/12/81 - 9/11/82 CBS
Along with the Trobbits, John found allies in a morphing elfin named Klone, a sorceress named Mara, Storm (The Queen of the Amazons) and a trusty dragon named Warlock. He would need all the help he could get to battle the evil Overlord of the Underworld who utilized the Power Stone to allow him to enslave most of the planet. But when Blackstar emerged in this new world, the power stone was split in two and the Overlord’s power was cut in half as a result. The other half of this powerful stone was transferred to Blackstar’s weapon of choice, the Star Sword. Soon, the age-old battle between the forces of good and evil would be played out yet again on the planet of Sagar.
A mere thirteen episodes of Blackstar were created by Filmation in 1981 and even though a series of action figures was released in conjunction with the show, a single season of magical battles was all that Blackstar could muster. A couple of years later, however, another series would emerge that shared many similarities with the ill-fated cartoon called He-Man, Master of Universe. Taking place on another faraway planet and starring a hero with a power sword of his own, it would prove far more lucrative.
