The top-billed star was, of course, Tarzan, who protected the jungle with the help of his sidekick chimp, N’Kima and an assortment of animal assistants that included an elephant named Tantor and Mangani, a great ape. Together, they explored and defended several of the lost cities described in the original books created by author Edgar Rice Burroughs.
Next up was the DC Comics icon Batman, who, alongside his faithful sidekicks Robin and Batgirl kept the citizens of Gotham City safe from crime. Also tagging along was Batman’s biggest fan, a well-meaning little guy named Batmite who had a tendency to get in the way more than he helped.
The Freedom Force featured the legendary heroine, Isis, who draws her power from an amulet found during an archeological dig in Egypt that allows her to fly, run at super speeds, and exhibit great feats of strength. To assist her in her adventures, she has assembled a team of interesting superheros, the Freedom Force which consist of Sinbad, Hercules, Super Samurai and Merlin.
Then it was time to travel to the depths of the ocean for two aquatic heroes, Manta and Moray. Manta was the last of a group of humans with the ability to breathe underwater. Moray was his female sidekick and spouse, who had been raised by dolphins as the result of a plane crash in the ocean when she was a child. Together, they worked to protect the ocean.
Another husband and wife crimefighting team, Superstretch and Microwoman were a seemingly ordinary suburban couple who, it just so happened, shared the ability to shapeshift. Superstretch could change into just about anything, a plane or a rubber ball or a robot, for example, whereas Microwoman could, you might have guessed, shrink down to microscopic size.
Webwoman featured a NASA scientist named Kelly Webster who possessed all of the combined strength of every arachnid on the planet, the result of having saved an alien insect who, in gratitude, gave her a magical ring from which she pulls her power. Armed with an assortment of gadgets on her utility belt, her and a furry little sidekick named Spinner traveled the globe in Webtrac, an eight-legged flying transport vehicle, performing missions of goodwill along the way.
And finally, the live-action series, Jason of Star Command, featured a young cadet in the futuristic galactic police force called Star Command. This segment eventually became a popular standalone series of its own in 1979.
When 1980 came around, Tarzan lost his top billing and the show was renamed Batman and the Super 7. Tarzan, on the other hand, merged with another masked hero for a series called The Tarzan/Lone Ranger Adventure Hour.
