Release History:

8/14/76 - 1/21/79 CBS
Hanna-Barbera loved the concept that a band of teenagers would naturally want to be detectives and bring their dogs along for the ride, so on the heels of Scooby-Do came Clue Club about a group of youths who investigated crime.

Larry, Pepper, D.D. and Dotty put their precocious minds to work uncovering dastardly deeds—nothing too bloody, this was a Saturday morning show—and bringing culprits to justice. Though the youngest, Dotty was really the brains of the group, often staying behind and working out scenarios on her minicomputer, while the others did the fieldwork. Like a general directing her troops if you will, she stayed at the base of operations and provided information and analysis to the rest.

Two bloodhounds, Woofer and Whimper, helped out the teenage crime busters. The dogs also provided most of the comic relief as they were more eager than capable and often bungled the job. Woofer was a whirlwind of investigative fury but always came to the wrong conclusion, while Whimper was just content to follow along.

The series ran for just one season on CBS from 1976 to 1977. Reruns aired on the show The Skatebirds with the new title Woofer and Whimper: Dog Detectives but the episodes were heavily edited to the point of being incomprehensible. After The Skatebirds, these cut up episodes appeared as a segment on The Robonic Stooges (Flesh and blood Stooges aren’t enough. We can rebuild them, we have the technology), but then the full episodes of Clue Club returned to the CBS Saturday morning lineup for another year.
