Loosely (very loosely) based on the popular 1942 book by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, The Adventures of the Little Prince was a Japanese production in the late 70s.  It was re-edited and dubbed into English for its run on syndicated TV.

Several elements from the animated show are taken from the book: the main character is the Little Prince, an extraterrestrial living on an asteroid designated B612. The Little Prince’s companions are Swifty the Space Bird and Rose Girl, who grew from a lone seed that landed on the asteroid. The Little Prince cares for his home and his rose but also dreams of adventure. When Swifty shows him how to capture a passing comet using a butterfly net, the Prince hitches a ride and sets out on a tour of the galaxy. He travels to many different worlds, meeting new and exciting people but his favorite place is Earth and he often visits there. Sooner or later though, the Little Prince grows homesick for his asteroid and Rose Girl and returns to B612. During his adventures, the Prince learns lessons about the higher virtues in life, like honesty and kindness.

The series debuted in New York and Los Angeles and after its successful run in 1982, premiered on Nickelodeon in 1985. Only 26 of the 39 episodes were dubbed in English but they are all available on DVD.
