70s children’s television programming was all about teaching kids about the world around them in the most gentle and friendly ways possible, and one little show set out to bring its sweet-natured style to the kids of Los Angeles, Dusty’s Treehouse

Airing on Los Angeles’ KNXT-TV, Stu “Dusty” Rosen and his puppet friends, Maxine the Crow, Stanley Spider and Scooter Squirrel, taught their young viewers about good behavior and about the things around them.  Each week kids climbed up the old oak tree into Dusty’s cozy clubhouse to learn how to make things like party hats and to listen to tales they performed.  Everyone would get into Dusty’s hot air balloon to visit a variety of factories, to learn how different products are made.

Dusty's Treehouse lasted an incredible ten years, two of which the program was brought into national syndication.  It even won the prestigious Peabody Award in 1973.  By the show’s end in 1980, the newly created Nickelodeon (then called Pinwheel), picked up the rights to re-air the program, giving a whole new generation of children the opportunity to visit Dusty and his friends in their happy treehouse.
