No real surprise about what this show was about. Long before Discovery Channel’s Animal Planet and Steve Irwin, the crocodile hunter, animal shows were limited to occasional National Geographic specials and Animals, Animals, Animals. Hal Linden, the star of Barney Miller, hosted this educational program. It aired on Sunday mornings, and provided kids with fun facts and footage of animals in their natural habitat.
Musical artist Lynn Kellogg provided original folk songs about the animal that was featured each week. Along with Linden, they would use literature and art to expand young viewers’ knowledge about each animal. ABC News correspondent Roger Caras provided veterinary care tips as well.
Not having to compete with the cutthroat Saturday morning lineup, Animals, Animals, Animals did quite well. It aired for five seasons, and was only cancelled when it was bumped off for This Week With David Brinkley.
