The old west merged with the future in BraveStarr, an animated science-fiction western that featured Marshall BraveStarr, a Native-American lawman of the 24th century and defender of the planet, New Texas.

Astride his trusty steed, Thirty-Thirty, and accompanied by the ever-loyal Deputy Fuss, BraveStarr operated from his headquarters at Fort Kerium, fighting evil and doling out servings of frontier justice to any bad guy that dared to get in his way. BraveStarr served to protect the lawful rule of Judge B.J., magistrate of New Texas, and received moral guidance from Shaman, an elderly advisor that appeared from time to time.

BraveStarr was generally armed with a standard-issue Neutra-laser pistol and a trans-freezer rifle, but he preferred to use his handy spirit animal powers instead. “Eyes of the Hawk” allowed him to see great distances, “Ears of the Wolf” gave him superior hearing abilities, “Strength of the Bear” gave him superhuman strength and “Speed of the Puma” gave him the ability to achieve great speed.

And he would need every power in his disposal because New Texas had its share of formidable villains such as Tex Hex, the mutated purple leader of the Carrion Bunch, who had the ability to summons up energy bolts and lightning snakes and even blow up mountains. Sandstorm was a red reptilian alien being who had the ability belch out enormous clouds of sand. And lets not forget Cactus Head, a robot equipped with four mechanical legs, two fierce energy cannons, and for good measure, the head of a cactus.

BraveStarr would be the final animated offering from Filmation, the company that had brought such cartoons as Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, The Archie Show and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe to the airwaves. Unfortunately, BraveStarr never quite achieved the success of these animated predecessors and after 65 episodes, it was time for the good sheriff to ride into the sunset.
