When identical twin actresses Liz and Jean Sagal got cast for NBC's Double Trouble, they were asked to switch parts right before shooting. Liz played Allison and Jean played Kate, but as everybody involved was identical, no one would have ever guessed.

 

In the series, Allison and Kate Foster are twins with hardly identical personalities. Alli is a smart and studious high schooler and Kate is impulsive and willful. They live with their widowed dad Art in Des Moines, and Art’s girlfriend Beth McConnell was also part of the cast.

 

In September 1984 the series went off the air, coming back three months later with a slight change of plot. The twins are now living with their Aunt Margo (the author of the children’s book series “Bongo Bear”) in New York City. Kate is studying action and Allison is pursuing fashion design. The rest of the cast consisted of Allison’s arrogant teacher, Mr. Arrechia, along with "The Funny Boys," Charles Kincaid and Billy Batalano, two actors who also lived in Margo's building.

 

Unfortunately, the new storyline couldn’t save Double Trouble from cancellation, which happened at the end of the 84-85 season.
