When Sherman Fangsworth saw the moon, a funny thing happened – he turned into a hungry werewolf. It didn’t even have to be the actual moon – a picture of the moon worked just fine. Then, in his new identity as Fangface, he would solve mysteries, natch.

 

The backstory was that a werewolf was born into the Fangsworth family every 400 years, and Fangs was it. As a regular teenager, he wasn’t particularly brave, and forgot his thrilling adventures as Fangface. His friends were Biff, the head of the group, spunky Kim, the second in command, and Puggsy, Sherman’s best friend who liked to refer to him as a pinhead.

 

Sherman’s friends always carried a picture of the moon with them, which they showed to him whenever they needed some help from his alter-ego. After he turned into Fangface, Sherman would be hungry enough to eat Puggsy, and the others would have to rub Fangface’s foot to make him let Puggsy go. Puggsy just ended up annoyed at these attempts to ingest him.

 

When the kids were ready to have Sherman back again, they would show him a picture of the sun and Fangface was gone. That clever ruse helped them in their crime fighting, as they drove around in their appropriately named Wolf Buggy.

 

In its second season, Fangface became part of The Plastic Man Comedy Adventure Show with the name Fangface and Fangpuss. This version introduced Baby Fangs, Sherman’s cousin, who also could turn into a werewolf called Fangpuss. While Sherman couldn’t remember his transformations, Baby Fangs could – and he liked it.

 

In 1980, Plastic Man was revamped, and Fangface was removed from the show. No more crime fighting for this werewolf.
