Having a magical being around the house to help with chores isn’t such a bad thing as shows like Bewitched and I Dream of Genie have shown us. Like these earlier series (but not really), 1989’s Free Spirit focused on an immortal witch, Winnie Goodwinn, who becomes a mortal family’s housekeeper and gets embroiled in their troubles and good times.

Winnie, played by the bubbly Corinne Bohrer, is at first reluctant to come to earth and become involved with a common family. Her good nature wins out though and she takes on work in the household of Thomas Harper, a busy lawyer with three children. Winnie quickly sees that the motherless kids need a lot of TLC and their father needs someone to remind him to have fun once in a while. Many of the problems are solved by Winnie’s magic powers although she does make a concerted effort to work things out the ‘normal’ way.

A notable alum of Free Spirit is Alyson Hannigan, who went on to play Willow in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Lily in How I Met Your Mother. Free Spirit only lasted for a single season of 14 episodes.
