Little Dog and Big Dog were two canines constantly getting themselves into tricky situations but lacked the brainpower to actually get out of them. Little Dog was excitable and high strung with a severe cat phobia; Big Dog was more easygoing but with a tendency to cough things up. Between the two of them, potty humor and gross-out gags abounded. There was also a human character named Hollywood who appeared frequently to pester the doggy duo and utter his signature phrase, “Isn't that cute…but it's WROOOONG!!" Another character in the series was Secret Squirrel, a Hanna-Barbera creation from the 60s, remade into Super Secret Secret Squirrel. The antics of the spy-spoofing squirrel and his Peter Lorre-esque assistant, Morocco Mole, acted as a filler segment in the middle of each 2 Stupid Dogs episode.
The show spawned a variety of catchphrases, like Little Dog’s “This tastes like ca-ca!” and Big Dog’s mellow “Where’s the food?” There were also a lot of established running gags like Big Dog’s throwing up of whole corncobs and Little Dog’s petrified stance when confronted by a cat. No one claimed this was Shakespeare, folks, but the show had a lot of appeal and ran original episodes for two seasons before moving to the Cartoon Network and the promise of eternal life in reruns.
