Release History:

9/24/64 - 8/27/70 NBC
After becoming a television icon in the mid-50’s playing Davy Crockett on Disneyland, actor Fess Parker brought another frontier character to the small screen – Daniel Boone. Based on the life of the noted frontiersman who helped settle Kentucky, this NBC series told the story of Daniel’s adventures in the new West. Boone explored new territory, dealt with both friendly and hostile Indians, and lived with his family – his wife Rebecca, and his children Israel and Jemima. Parker’s Fespar Enterprises also co-produced the series with 20th Century Fox Television.

Also on the show were Daniel’s friends Yadkin, his fellow pioneer, Mingo, an Indian, and Cincinnatus, the tavern keeper. After the first season, Yadkin was replaced by a younger pioneer, Jericho Jones. Soon after that, Mingo was replaced by Gideon, a black Indian. Other characters that came on the show included Gabe Cooper, a black slave who escaped captivity to live with the Indians, and the fur trapper Josh Clements.

Daniel Boone didn’t try for historical accuracy – in one case, an episode featured President George Washington, and in the following episode they were experiencing the Revolutionary War. But kids found it entertaining anyway, and it had a six season run before it was cancelled in 1970.
