Steppin' In to Eden. Yeah, brother!

Life-long Trekkie

It seems that Star Trek has been a part of my life ever since I can remember, although I did not become a mad fan of the (original) series until I was in college. Is it just me or does anyone else out there find the sound of the bridge (when not at red alert status) soothing?
The first character that I felt a bond with was Spock, from when I was very young. And when I got older, he became my ideal man!
I started going to the conventions, held at the Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan, in the late 80's and have met the following characters from TOS: Sarek, Amanda, Spock, Uhura, Chekov, Bones & Scotty. I even have a picture of me and Scotty cheek to cheek which I treasure, especially now since he's passed.
I remember being very excited about the "new" Next Generation series and I became a huge fan very quickly. Picard was not Kirk but was a well-defined character who could stand on his own and the episodes were generally very well written. I think Worf became my new Spock. And although I found her character initially very irritating, I came to appreciate every episode in which Lwaxana appeared. I hope that they put out a Lwaxana Troi DVD collection soon.
I became a fan of all the other series, but always was a slow adapter because I'd be stubbornly mourning the series that went before.
My all time favorite series is Deep Space Nine, though. I felt that it was the highlight of the TV franchise and was really sad to see it go. Thank goodness for books, fanfiction, action figures, DVDs and comix!
As for the STXI...I love it! I was so Trek-starved when it came out, that I would have appreciated even a mediocre movie. But, I found it to be delightful and I got a kick out of seeing it with other fans who appreciated all of the "in' jokes. Cannot wait to see the sequel to the prequel.
I have a good friend who got me two sets of Burger King Star Trek Glasses (bragging). But what I want for Christmas is the Uhura Barbie Doll. I am already dropping hints.
What a fan!
