Jan-Michael Vincent played Stringfellow Hawke, a cello-playing helicopter pilot who was hired by “The Firm,” a secret government organization, to pilot a secret, super-high-tech helicopter. He was joined by his partner Dominic Santini, and spent every episode both fighting crime and looking his brother, an MIA from Vietnam.

Airwolf was a big hit with action-adventure fans. It’s success rested on the combination of the cool, technically advanced attack helicopter, combined with Vincent’s reserved Han Solo-like protagonist. His sexy sidekick, Caitlin O'Shannessey, was a draw herself.

The show was created by Donald Bellisario, who had also developed Magnum, P.I. He’s go on to create other action shows with memorable heroes, such as Quantum Leap and JAG.
