Vampirism can transcend species, apparently. For proof, witness Count Duckula, star of the eponymous show that aired on UK's ITV in 1988.

The Count may be a duck but he's still a vicious vampire, living and terrorizing through centuries. Sunlight or a stake through the heart might kill him, but only temporarily, until his servants perform an ancient ritual that restores the Count. However, the latest incarnation went wrong and an inept servant substituted ketchup when the ritual needed blood and, as a result, the present Count Duckula is a dedicated vegetarian, drooling after carrots not jugulars. He has also tired of the gloomy, dank vampire life and now desires to pursue a career in entertainment. Igor, the servant who mixed up the blood and the ketchup, is horrified at his master's strange new proclivities and constantly tries to return him to a proper, blood sucking state.

Duckula contends with various foes in the series, including the Van Helsing-inspired Dr. Von Goosewing. The good doctor is a vampire hunter and doesn't believe that the Count has been rendered harmless to all except vegetables. There are also the Crow Brothers, thieves after Duckula's treasure and the Egg, an unhatched avian with a criminal streak.

Count Duckula also aired on Nickelodeon until the early 90s. The cartoon was a hit on both sides of the pond and gave rise to a comic book version released by Marvel.
