It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt. The main character in White Shadow was a fictional basketball player for the Chicago Bulls until a knew injury put him on the sidelines. At a crossroads in his life, the former star athlete met up with an old friend and the rest was history.

Well, not exactly history but there were plenty of dramatic moments in the series. Ken Reeves (played by tall, blond and handsome Ken Howard) receives an odd job offer from Jim Willis, his old roommate from college. Jim was now the principal of a high school in Los Angeles in need of a basketball coach who could control but also inspire the student players. Ken packed his bags and off he went across the country to mold young minds.

Carver High School had an unsavory reputation and was located in a very unsavory neighborhood. Ken rolled up his sleeves and got right to work, trying to organize the mostly black and Hispanic team into a cohesive playing unit. Some days were harder than others, especially for the young players. They had to contend with rampant crime and unemployment all around them, sometimes dangerous home lives, drugs, peer pressure, gang violence and racial conflicts. Ken provided a steadying influence for the players, standing behind them like a "white shadow."
