MEMORY:

Since this show seems to be such a hot topic on the boards as of right now, I feel it is only fitting to add my memory of this show here. Of course, I was too young to remember the original run (it did premiere five years before I was born), but back in the days before TNN became SPIKE-TV, they used to air old reruns of Alice, and I just kept thinking that the show was so hilarious and so smartly written, and within a time frame of a few months, I had seen the entire run! Alice's backstory served as inspiration to single mothers everywhere. At the time, I think it seemed to make women and men everywhere believe that no matter what life dealt them, they really could have it all if they worked hard enough at it, while taking time out to laugh and enjoy themselves in the journey. As far as my favourite episodes go, I'd have to say the ones that were filmed from 1981 on, when they added Jolene Hunnicutt to the cast. This might be a little bit of an unpopular opinion, but I found Flo's "Kiss my grits" line to get really old after a while, so when Polly Holliday left the show, I admit, I wasn't too upset. I really wasn't.

"Even though I loved Flo, I agree that Kiss My Grits became a little stagnant after awhile! Jolene's character was a little softer than Flo's also. Plus Jolene was easy on the eyes, right? ;)"
