If you were a disco fan in the late 1970s, there was one television show you could tune into to get your dancin’ fix - Dance Fever. This amateur dance contest was hosted by Deney Terrio, the disco icon who became famous by teaching John Travolta how to get down in the movie Saturday Night Fever.

The program consisted of a series of couples cutting lose on the dance floor in a competition judged by three celebrities. These celebrity judges included names such as Barbara Eden, Rick Springfield and Adrian Zmed (who would replace host Deney Terrio in 1985.) The couple who won each week would return for a new match-up, eventually resulting in a final grand prize of $25,000. When the audience wasn’t being entertained by these regular-joe dancers, Deney and a pair of female dancers called “Motion” would take a spin around the dance floor too.

Dance Fever’s blend of hot disco music and cool dance moves made it a syndicated hit. Even after the disco trend faded, the show remained popular by introducing other popular dance songs. It managed to stay on the air deep into the 80s, taking it’s final bow in 1987. It’s no longer seen in syndication, but if you ever donned a pair of platforms and boogied at the disco, chances are you have fond memories of Dance Fever.
