If ever there were a melting pot of the cartoon world, Belle and Sebastian was it. Starting as a live-action British series, written and directed by French actress, Cecile Aubrey, it was produced in Japan and found popularity in America as an anime series. It would run for six seasons on the Nickelodeon channel and endear itself to a loyal following.

Sebastian was a young boy and Belle, his big white dog who some wrongly suspected was evil. Abandoned by gypsy parents in the French Pyrenees at a young age, he would continue to search for his mother Isabelle throughout the series. His grandfather Cesar and Aunt Angelina both did their best to look after and care for the young boy but he still often found himself in perilous conditions, whether it be avalanches or other mountainous dangers. Meanwhile, hot on their trail was Police Inspector Garcia, whose goal was to apprehend Belle for numerous alleged misdeeds.

Debuting in 1984, Belle and Sebastian episodes were a continuous storyline that kept viewers attention and won their affection. It was a touching tale of a boy and his beloved dog, two friends who persevered no matter the adversity they happened to face.
