Release History:

7/10/93 - 10/16/93 NBC
Live from the backlots of Universal Studios in Hollywood came this teen-oriented game show, starring teen idol and star of Saved by the Bell, Mark-Paul Gosselaar.

In each episode of the short-lived series, Brains & Brawn, two teams would compete in a series of mental and physical contests, all leading up to the ominous obstacle course finale. Physical competition included volleyball, hockey and a ball-throwing contest called “Swing Shot”. Mental competion included games called “2-Minute Drill” and “Oddity.”

In the early episodes, there was a celebrity captain for each team. Later, the show went with an All-Star theme, featuring teams comprised of stars from Saved by the Bell competing against their rivals from another teen show, California Dreaming. Danielle Harris served as the first cohost of the series, before being replaced by Tatyana M. Ali, from television’s The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

For all of its spirited competition and numerous teen idols, Brains & Brawn didn’t really have much of an opportunity to build a following. It began as a summer replacement series in July of 1993 and by October, it had thrown in the towel.
