Release History:

9/12/92 - 9/7/97 NBC
After their joint success with Saved by the Bell, NBC and Peter Engel Productions joined forces again for another cute teen comedy – California Dreams

California Dreams was the name of a band that was formed in guitarist and lead singer Matt Garrison’s basement in Redondo Beach, California. The initial group featured Matt’s sister Jenny on keyboards, ditzy blonde Tiffani Smith on bass, and smooth-talking Antoine “Tony” Wicks on drums. The band was managed by Matt and Jenny’s sleazy next door neighbor Sylvester "Sly" Winkle. All the kids went to Pacific Coast High and hung out at Sharkey’s after school.

During the second season, both Matt’s parents and sister Jenny were mostly out of the show. Keyboard duties were taken over by foreign exchange studio Samantha Woo, and new kid in town, Jake Sommers, joined as new lead guitarist. Then, in the third season, Matt and his family moved to New York. Sly’s cousin Mark joined the band as the new keyboardist and some lead vocals. Spoiled rich girl Lorena Costa took Samantha in after the Garrison’s moved, and joined the band as well.

The series combined soap opera storylines, romantic entanglements and an MTV style that was a big hit with kids and teens. The Dreams recorded and released singles, but never were able to get a charting hit. After five season on NBC, and a few more in syndicated cable, the California Dreams took their last bow.
