Feeding off the fascination of the idea of monkeys in space, Captain Simian told the story of a chimp named Charlie who was a passenger on one of the spaceflights in the 1960’s. When his rocket went off course, he was found by the most intelligent race in the universe, called the “ “. (Just stare off into space to pronounce this. That’s right.)

 

The “ “ called the monkey Captain Charlie Simian, and gave him enhanced intelligence, futurist technology, and weapons. They asked him to protect the universe from Nebula, an evil half-human, half-black hole entity whose goal it was to become a complete black hole, swallow the universe in a “Big Crunch”, and reform it again in his own image.

 

Charlie was allowed to get his earth monkey friends to help him on his assignment. Chao Lin, a Chinese golden monkey who had both fighting skills and wisdom, Spydor, a little spider monkey with a long tail who liked to make wisecracks, Dr. Splitz/Splitzy, an orangutan whose split personality moved between scientist and madman, and Gor, a big gorilla, who broke the intelligence-enhancing machine before it was completely done with him. He also accidentally damaged Orbitron, the most powerful machine in the universe.

 

For twenty-six episodes in syndication, the monkey crew took their ship, the Primate Avenger, and fought Nebula and Rhesus 2, his cyborg monkey henchman.
