Amblin Entertainment’s feature films An American Tail and An American Tail: Fievel Goes West told the story of Jewish mouse immigrant Fievel Mousekiwitz and his family as they build a new life in the new world. Their adventures continued on the small screen in Fievel's American Tails, a Saturday morning series that picked up where we last left the Mousekiwitz’s in the Old West.
The town of Green River is a mouse city built under the human-run General Store. Fievel lives with his mom, his Yiddish-speaking dad, and Tanya and Yasha, his sisters. Fievel is learning to become a cowboy, while avoiding being eaten by monocle-wearing feline Cat R. Waul. Cat and his dim sidekicks Sweet William and Chula the tarantula, live nearby at the Morton Walton Funerals Building. Fievel’s friends include another cat, Tiger, who keeps tabs on his mousy buddy, as well as Jack the Australian mouse and Jorge the Hispanic mouse.
The theme of the series focused on cultural respect and living together peacefully, and Fievel would try to set an example of these by concentrating on friendship and courtesy. The ratings were a little less respectful however, and the show was cancelled after only one season. The little mouse did much better on the big screen, appearing in a third feature in the direct-to-video release of An American Tail III: The Treasure of Manhattan Island.
