The last frontier doesn't reside in outer space or in the unexplored depths of the ocean; no, there's a whole hidden world inside your computer, populated by more than just dust bunnies and bread crumbs.

In television's first all-CGI series, the world of Mainframe existed inside a home computer, filled with little creatures called binomes. As their name suggested, each binome represented a 1 or a 0 in accordance with binary code. Most of the action centered around the binomes' fight against malignant viruses and other computer maladies.

The main character was Bob, Guardian of Mainframe and all-around nice guy. He came to Mainframe from the Internet to vanquish Megabyte, the evil virus threatening the computer's systems. Helping Bob in his fight are Dot Matrix, a diner manager, young Enzo (Dot's brother), not so young Phong and a dog named Frisket.

Megabyte also had help in Hack, Slash and Hexadecimal, who ran amok inside the Mainframe. Adding to Bob's troubles was the mysterious User who loaded games on to the computer which would destroy Mainframe if allowed to run the course. Bob would enter the game, reboot as one of the game's characters and fights with the User's avatar.

This innovative and complex Canadian production drew many fans from among the techie crowd, who mourned its cancellation after 47 episodes. Rumor has it that a feature film is in the works, so take heart.
