The early 90s were all about natural conservation and saving the planet from pollution. Luckily, Earthlings had a real asset in their corner: Widget, a little pink alien had traveled vast distances across space to be a World Watcher for ecological misdeeds.

Standing four feet tall with pinkish purple skin, Widget hailed from the Horsehead nebula and had the amazing ability of shape-shifting into any form he wished. Helping Widget with his mission were Earth siblings, Kevin, Brian and Kristine. The unlikely team was later joined by Half-Pint, Widget's impulsive and energetic cousin. Rounding out the group of Earth protectors was Mega Brain, Widget's genius companion and assistant. Mega Brain was just a large floating brain in a transparent skull hovering above a pair of disembodied hands.

Widget and his friends had to keep a sharp lookout for villains--alien and human--who sought to destroy Earth's fragile environment. The team matched wits with Dr. Dante, a mad scientist from Earth and Mega Slank, an alien shape-shifter bearing a grudge against Widget's people. Ratchet was Widget's evil twin and he often caused trouble for the friendly alien and humans.

Most episodes highlighted the dangers of pollution, the effect of toxic substances on an ecosystem, the plight of endangered species and the perils of unchecked technology. Widget must have been doing something well because the cartoon moved from Saturday mornings to weekday afternoons and ran for five seasons.
