Based on a series of bedtime stories written by Marc Brown, the PBS animated series, Arthur debuted in 1996, and quickly won the hearts of children everywhere.

Arthur Read was an eight-year-old aardvark, who wasn’t unlike his typical third-grade viewers. He faced the same trials and tribulations of humans his age, such as dealing with his little sister, babysitting the Terrible Tibble Twins, and avoiding encounters with his third grade teacher. He and his friends were all bipedal animals with human emotions and each week they taught their young viewers various lessons that would hopefully get them through their own troubled times.

Whether learning how to take care of a puppy, handling the frightening experience of getting locked in library overnight, or simply learning to accept the fact that he had to wear glasses, Arthur at least had a wonderful and colorful menagerie of friends to help him get through the day – friends such as Binky Sue Ellen, Francine, Prunella, Buster, Fern and Muffy, who made his life in Elmwood City just a little more manageable, a little more special.

This popular PBS series about a bespectacled aardvark kid continues to enjoy popularity to this day.
