Storch and Tucker played Eddie Spenser and Jake Kong, respectively, two blundering detectives who habitually went hunting for ghosts in an old manor house. Accompanying them on their excursions was a gorilla named Tracy (actually actor Bob Burns in an ape suit).
The show’s episode’s followed a set formula: Kong would send—get ready for it—Spenser and Tracy (hyuk hyuk hyuk) to the hardware store in town to receive instructions about their next mission, left by their contact, a man called Zero. The two would find the message hidden inside a different object every week and after listening to it, the tape recording would self-destruct. Poor Tracy usually got the brunt of the booby-trapped missives.
Zero always sent the team to the same old house, where they would encounter any number of familiar monsters, like Dracula, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and a mummy. Deceased historical characters like Napoleon, Merlin and Eric the Red also showed up to bedevil the detectives, who dispatched the apparitions with their Ghost Dematerializer.
The series ran for only a year but after the success of Ghostbusters with Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray, the original concept was retooled into a cartoon, featuring the grown sons of Kong and Spenser who had taken over the business.
