From the murky, black-and-white depths of 1960s television came Gigantor, the towering robot built to fight crime. It was originally an anime show that crossed from Japan to the U.S. and in 1993, the SciFi Channel resurrected the gigantic hulk for a new series. Actually, the series had been around since the 80s but the folks at SciFi gave it a good polish for American audiences.

The action continued several decades after the original Gigantor, when advances in materials and technology could build a better model. The robot's main function stayed the same, i.e. zooming around stopping criminals and evil masterminds. Johnny Sparks, the young son of one of Gigantor's inventors, appeared as the robot's controller, still riding around on his huge friend when the two needed to get somewhere fast. Another familiar face was Inspector Blooper, the policeman who gave Gigantor his assignments.

A total of 51 episodes were produced for SciFi which ran the show for four years, occasionally including The New Adventures of Gigantor in its Cartoon Quest programming block.
