George Orwell warned of the impending battle between pigs and sheep, although he probably didn’t envision a show like Barnyard Commandos would mock his socialist political statement in such wacky way.

On one side of the farm, the sheep, who spoke in “Baa Code” and their fearless leaders, Major Legger Mutton and Commander Fleece Cardigan. On the other side, the pigs, with their own unique language, “Pork Latin” and their own swine leaders, Sgt. Shoat and Sweet and Sgt. Hammond Egger.

Both sides, the P.O.R.K.S (or Platoon Of Rebel Killer Swine) and the R.A.M.S (Rebel Army of Militant Sheep,) more often than not reverted to insults and pop culture parodies for their battles than any actual violence. Thankfully, the grilling was only verbal and not of the culinary variety. And both sides were too preoccupied with finding the location of the “Great Secret” to ever do any lasting damage to each other.

Appearing in 1990, only four episodes were ever aired of Barnyard Commandos, although a series of action figures was released to accompany these brave beasts, who battled each other endlessly in the barnyard battlefield, where only the most courageous chops survive the butchery of war to see another day.
