A happy 1970s show about arts, crafts, music and songs called The Patchwork Family was produced in New York, hosted by Carol Corbett, veteran of other NY area syndicated TV shows and Rags, a yellow and orange puppet with a passion for jelly beans.

The Patchwork Family consisted of various segments that taught young viewers how to make a craft using simple materials, how to draw various animals and objects or a new song for the day. Carol and Rags often participated in the activities; Rags was always seated or standing behind a bench, cleverly hiding his puppet master. Remember, kids: the hand that holds the puppet is the hand that rules the world. One popular segment of the show featured a man doodling on a piece of paper with his eyes closed and then trying to make sense of the random drawings on the page.

The series ran for a year in the New York area only, never making it on the national syndicated circuit. But its simplicity and charm appealed to the kids who could watch it on Saturday mornings and it is still remembered with fond nostalgia.
