Release History:

1977 ABC
Let us tell you who to blame if you hanker for a hunka cheese...and choose to phrase your hankering in exactly those terms: the culprit is a round yellow blob with a long, spindly nose and a bow tie. DePatie-Freleng's creation starred in ABC's Health and Nutrition Series that taught impressionable youngster what not to cram into their pieholes.

Time for Timer was a string of public service ads starring Timer, giver of good advice and singer of catchy songs like,

"I hanker for a hunka,
A slab or slice or chunka
A snack that is a winner,
And yet won't spoil my dinner,
I hanker for a hunka cheese… Yahoo!"

Timer sang the aforementioned ditty in an Old West outfit and went as far as to make wagon wheels out of cheese. You can't argue with that sort of versatility.

Another skit featuring Timer stressed the importance of a nutritious breakfast as the foundation of each day, explaining that without a ready supply of carbohydrates, proteins and vitamins "all these motors in your body" would soon run down. Timer even offered tips on making one's own snacks that were good and good for you. Just take some fruit juice, pour it in an ice cube tray (we like trays shaped like things, squares are so boring), cover the tray with plastic wrap and stick a toothpick into each compartment. When the juice froze, you had instant mini-popsicles.

The educational spots ran for many years in the 70s and could still be seen during nostalgia-themed programming in later years. If you never experienced the magic of Timer, there's still time to freeze some fruit juice and have a healthy, balanced breakfast.
