Get It Together was a showcase for popular bands and music of the time, in the tradition of legendary American Bandstand. Dick Clark produced the new show, which was much shorter in duration than its predecessor but packed as much music as possible into its time limit. A teenage audience was in attendance here too, but segments like the dances and the Rate-A-Record panel were cut.

Clark remained behind the scenes and handed over hosting duties to Sam Riddle and “Mama” Cass Elliot. Dozens of popular bands and young hopeful musicians graced the stage of the short-lived show, playing to very appreciative, very loud teens.  The studio was rocking in a serious way with the sounds of Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Beach Boys, Three Dog Night, Jethro Tull, Gladys Knight, Donovan, the Moody Blues, Steppenwolf and many, many more. Even Tiny Tim and his frizzy hair made an appearance on the show.

The fun didn’t last long though and after a mere eight months on the air, ABC canceled Get It Together. The screaming teenagers would have to be content with The Monkees reruns airing at the same time on rival network CBS.
