From the pages of Jules Verne’s classic novel, “Around the World in 80 Days” came this Australian animated series of the same name - loosely based upon the original book and debuting almost a hundred years after the original.

The show followed the travels of English traveler, Phileas Fogg, a dapper gentleman who was in love with a beautiful girl named Belinda Maze. Her stuffy uncle, Lord Maze, didn’t think much of the prospect of being the uncle-in law to Phileas, but Fogg made him an offer of sorts, a wager that he could circumnavigate the entire globe in a mere 80 days. Should his attempt be successful, he would not only earn a sizable cash sum, but also his beloved Belinda’s hand in marriage.

With Lord Maze’s approval, Fogg and his valet, Passepartout, set out to utilize every form of transportation available to them in the 19th century. Using a combination of hot air balloon, steam train, ship, and even the occasional pachyderm, the pair criss-crossed from continent to continent, sharing a few geographic tips with their young viewers along their journey. To make things more difficult, Lord Maze employed the sinister to follow the pair, sabotaging their journey at every opportunity, and doing his best to ensure their failure.

After 16 episodes, Fogg emerged victorious, marrying his sweetheart, with only moments to spare. Preferring to stay grounded with his lovely Belinda for the foreseeable future after such a daunting adventure, the first season of the animated series would also be its last.
