Release History:

1976 - 1980 syndicated
"It’s the Hot Fudge Show coming up!"

Filled with punch lines, brightly colored puppets and plenty of music, the Hot Fudge Show hit the airwaves in 1976, offering its unique blend of education and entertainment. Produced by Barry Hurd and Bob Elnicky, Hot Fudge Show is perhaps best remembered for the truly unforgettable tunes that were presented over its four-year run.

Hot Fudge Show started out as a local Detroit show, but soon gained national attention in syndication, where it was often shown in the early morning hours. Following a psychedelic opening sequence, the puppets were eager to perform, offering a variety of sing-along tunes that contained a few lessons within, such as “Hooray for Friendship.” Recurring sketches on the show included Holey Moley!, Name That Feeling, Detective Tomato and Elton Seymour (featuring a puppet impersonation of Elton John.)

In the first year of broadcast, the show was hosted by comedian Artie Johnson, famous for his appearances on Rowan and Martin’s Laugh in. In subsequent seasons, Larry Santos and puppet Seymour (voice provided by Elnicky) took over the emcee duties. Perhaps the most notable performer on the show was Glen Denver, a parody of John Denver that culminated into the release of his own album, Glen Denver Sings Country Songs from the Hot Fudge T.V. Show. Three other albums of material were released over the years, including The Electric Fuzz's Rock 'N Roll from the Hot Fudge T.V. Show, Larry and Seymour Sing Songs from the Hot Fudge T.V. Show and Hooray For Friendship (and 9 Other Hits) from the Hot Fudge T.V. Show.

In 2007, a 90-minute reunion special was aired on the local Detroit PBS station that featured the entire original cast. For those that missed this walk down memory lane, it is available on DVD.
