Release History:

1/6/68 - 9/20/69 ABC
American Bandstand host, Dick Clark, combined forces with two members of Paul Revere and the Raiders, Mark Lindsey and Paul Revere, to bring forth the daytime variety show, Happening ’68. Originally broadcast on Saturdays, it would eventually find its way into the weekday lineup, under the altered title, It’s Happening.

Not surprisingly, the show mainly served to showcase musical acts. The weekday version also included additional segments, such as “Style Faire” which was hosted by model Keith Rogers and a gossip segment, hosted by Kathy Orloff. There was also the occasional A-list guest star, such as Don Rickles, Joey Bishop, Don Adams and a young Regis Philbin.

Happening ’68
debuted on July 15th, 1968, and It’s Happening, shortly thereafter. The daytime version found competing with the popular soap opera As the World Turns an insurmountable challenge and it was cancelled almost as soon as it started. By the fall of 68’ it was clear that the Sunday show wasn’t exactly happening either and it was taken off the air, to be replaced by NCAA Football. It would enjoy another short run, however, in 1969 - airing each week after the iconic American Bandstand.
