Gateway Arch: St. Louis, Missouri
My birth place, and where I live now, well I live right across the river from St.Louis in Illinois, pretty much my whole family lives in St.Louis, and has for 40 years or so, I see the Arch a lot traveling across the river into Missouri, and remember my mom telling me of its construction when my family lived in the city, when we moved 2 hours farther south, I grew up mainly rural, a long way from the big city, now I live nearby again, and St.Louis is a great city, not to big, not to small..

MEMORY:
Here I am about, oh 6 months or so, with my siblings.
Oh and my brother (in this picture) was going into the Air Force during the Vietnam War, he barely avoided going to Vietnam, he knew the draft was coming, so doing this very smart thing, he talked to a Air Force recuriter just before graduating high school, soon as he was out, came the draft notice, and he got right in to the Air Force, and served in Cuba, lucky break, he served in the Air Force Reserves up to Desert Storm, after that, he retired from the military.
And the puppy I am staring at, no clue of the name.

MEMORY:
My father finds out his company is closing it's St.Louis plant, and gives him a choice to relocate to two other plants, the closest is a plant in the little town of Cairo, Illinois, about 2 1/2 hours from St.Louis located on the tip end of Southern Illinois, my father chooses here because all of my family still live around St.Louis and he wanted to stay as close as possible.
We move down to southern Illinois around 1970.

Captain Kangaroo
I watched the Captain all the time back when I was a kid, my biggest memory was being upset one morning when it was pre-empted for a news report of Nixon leaving the White House. Captain Kangeroo for me always means my childhood.

Comic Books
Can I be anymore of a nerd, the thing I cherished for years, and I do mean years, I stopped getting them around 1995, I am talking COMIC BOOKS my friends, yes the thing that got me wanting to read at a early age, I just looked at the pictures in the beginning before I could read, and drove my mom nuts in the following years, comic books falling out of closets and piled everywhere.
And it was her fault, to get me off the much more expensive Matchbox cars at the time, she led me to comics, at that time "still only 15 cents" as the cover price read, not knowing she was hooking me on a long time addiction of Superman, Batman, and Spiderman, and a headache of boxes and closets, and anything else that I could shove comics in...oh woe to the person that tries to get off cheap..heh!

McDonald's
When I was a kid we lived 35 minutes from the nearest Mcdonalds and most fast food places, so going there was always a major part of the every 2 week ritual when we went to the "larger town" to shop.
I have to say Mcdonalds marketing to kids certainly worked, we ate there I would say a good 98% of the time when we went shopping, my one memory of those days was that my grandmother always, and I mean always ordered the filet o fish, I don' t think she ever got a burger there her whole life..LOL

Super Friends
I was big into comics as a kid, and I loved Super Friends, had all my favorite DC heroes Superman,Batman,Wonder Woman though Aquaman so so, I could have done without Wendy,Marvin and Wonderdog later replaced by the Wonder Twins put in for comic relief for kids, by the mid 70's the most popular Super Friends came out, Challenge of the Super Friends, which added other heroes, like Flash and Green Lantern, battling the Legion of Doom all their arch enemies, the Wonder Twins were gone, but added was some ethnic superheroes, Apache Chief,Black Vulcan and Samurai, later in a Justice League Unlimited episode the brought these characters back, as part of a Cadmus created project.
I watched Super Friends all the way up to it's end in 1985,

Schoolhouse Rock
I remember when Schoolhouse Rock premiered, teaching kids through song was a great idea, all the songs were catchy and fun as a kid to sing along to, you didn't even realize you were learning.I bought the special edition DVD, nothing takes you back like watching Schoolhouse Rock.
I read a article some time ago where one of the creators of Schoolhouse Rock was invited to a college to speak, he didn't think there would be hardly anyone there, to his suprise it was packed, he said he felt like a rock star, all the kids came up to him telling him about their favorite Schoolhouse Rock segments and having him sign autographs, he was simply amazed it had that much a impact he just never realized.
