You Can't Do That On TelevisionPosted On: 11/15/07 |
PHOTO:![]() From it's sister show Whatever Turns You On Whatever Turns You OnYou Can't Do That On Television had a prime time TV show in the fall of 1979 titled Whatever Turns You On on CTV that aired in Canada nationwide. In May of 1979 they aired a one hour TV pilot on a Saturday morning all across Canada plus it starred Laugh In veteran Ruth Buzzi playing the female adult roles along with Les Lye plus there was a mucial guest by Vancouver rock band Trooper as they performed three of their classic hits "We're Here for a Good Time", "Round Round We Go" and "Raise a Little Hell" as well as some of the similar comedy skits like the living room, dome skits, dungeon, opposite skits and locker jokes. The pilot was a success so in the fall of 79 the series started every Tuesday night at 7:30pm for a half an hour as Ruth Buzzi returned to the series and it featured Les Lye too along with the kids cast performed by Christine "Moose" McGlade, Kevin Somers, Jono Gebert, Marc Baillon, Rodney Helal, Kevin Schenk and Lisa Ruddy. Plus for the first half of the episodes there was one musical guest each by a local Canadian band like the Cooper Brothers, Ian Thomas, Max Webster and disco artist Alma Faye Brooks. But only 12 episodes aired and the series was losing money too so before 1980 came around the series was cancelled due to poor ratings as the series was an odd comination for its airing as well as kids couldn't relate to Ruth Buzzi or the musical guests but when the series aired back to YCDTOTV in 1981 some of the same skits from WTYO were created including Barth's Burger Diner as Ruth Buzzi played a female Barth in WTYO as the show had a studio cafeteria skits plus on one ep of WTYO titled Summer Camp Les Lye played a slobby camp cook that grabbed the producers attention to have a Barth character when YCDTOTV reaired. WTYO was briefly seen in reruns in 1988 when a new Canadian TV station became new to the public but only for one season and then the episodes were destroyed and never seen again. However, some exist but mainly in very grainy format.Gold Stars: 2 GOLD STARS:RELATED ITEMS: |
